The Clay Fire is a progressive, full-service combination department that provides fire protection and emergency services.

Areas Served


Clay Fire provides services to the following areas:
  • Clay Township
  • German Township
  • Harris Township 
  • Indian Village
  • Town of Roseland

Location


Clay Fire is located in northern St. Joseph County in Indiana. It is bordered by:
  • Elkhart County to the east
  • Michigan state line to the north
  • University of Notre Dame, the City of South Bend, and City of Mishawaka to the south
  • Warren Township to the west

Population


The population serviced by Clay Fire is approximately 70,000 residents.

Staff


Firefighters are split between three platoons operating in two battalions. All personnel provide emergency services from five community-based fire houses. Clay Fire is a combination department with:
  • 65 full-time firefighters
  • 50 part-time and on-call firefighters
